  • Stonewall Democrats of Austin - January 2021 Meeting Join us for our first meeting of 2021. We'll learn more about Austinites for Progressive Reform, and hear about the initial LGBTQI+ bills files at the Texas Legislature.-----------Austinites for Progressive Reform is a campaign to amend the city charter to make Austin the most pro-democracy city in the country. The campaign has proposed four charter amendments that will lead to a more representative, diverse, responsive, and accountable city government:- Elect the mayor in presidential years, not midterms;- Move to ranked-choice voting, to eliminate low-turnout runoffs;- Adopt a mayor-council form of government, instead of our "strong manager" system; and- Create a “Democracy Dollars” public campaign financing program.More information is available at austinprogress.org.   • Stonewall Endorsements - City Council, School Board & Propositions The Stonewall Democrats of Austin are pleased to announce the results of our endorsement vote for the 2020 Austin City Council, school boards, and the City of Austin Transportation Propositions. Candidates needed to get at least 60% of the votes cast in their race to earn the endorsement. In races where there were three or more candidates and no single candidate met the threshold but two candidates received at least 40% of the votes, then a dual endorsement was given.Early Voting runs from October 13 - 30 and Election Day is Tuesday, November 3.
