  • Early Voting Underway for May 7 Elections Early voting for the May 7 Elections runs from Monday, April 25th to Tuesday, May 3rd. The only item on the City of Austin ballot is Proposition 1, which deals with an ordinance addressing Transportation Network Companies (TNCs). At the April 13 monthly meeting the membership of the Stonewall Democrats of Austin voted to oppose the ordinance change. We encourage all our members and supports to vote AGAINST Prop 1. Prop 1 is an attempt by out of town billion dollar corporations, to lessen our public safety rules in exchange for money. Our City Council voted to institute fingerprint background checks on Uber and Lyft drivers as recommended by the Austin Police Association and the Texas Department of Public Safety ...

  • Monthly SDA meeting March 9th at Cafe Express Please join the members of the Stonewall Democrats of Austin at our March 9th monthly meeting to be held at Cafe Express (3418 N. Lamar Blvd) beginning at 6:30 pm. Democratic activist extraordinaire Glen Maxey will be giving us an overview of what to expect at the March 19th Democratic County and Senate District Conventions. Texas Democratic Party rules will specify a certain number of LGBTQ delegates must be allocated and attending the County/Senate Conventions is the first step in that process. If you are interested in being a State and/or National Delegate you must attend the County/Senate Conventions.   • SDA Endorses Candidates for March 1 Democratic Primary On Thursday, January 28th the membership of the Stonewall Democrats of Austin heard from more than 35 candidates for the March 1 Democratic Primary elections. In order to be eligible to be considered for the club endorsement candidates were required to respond to a questionnaire addressing a number of LGBT issues (see 2016 Elections for those responses). Endorsements were made based on who the membership felt would best represent the interests of the LGBT community. In order to receive an endorsement a candidate needed to obtain at least 60% of the votes of those present and voting.   • SDA Candidate Endorsement Forum January 28 The Stonewall Democrats of Austin will be holding a Candidate Endorsement Forum on Thursday, January 28th in the Smith Auditorium of the Congregation Beth Israel (3901 Shoal Creek Blvd). Doors will open at 5:30 pm and the meeting will begin at 6:00 pm. In order to be considered for endorsement a candidate must have filled out our questionnaire (we will have copies of the candidates’ responses to our questionnaire available at the meeting). Candidates will give 1-2 minute opening remarks, followed by 2-3 minutes Q&A with our members, then 1 minute for closing remarks for a total of 5 minutes per candidate.
