This November marks the first time
the Austin City Council will be elected by district instead of citywide.
The new 10-1 Council will consist of 10 members elected by district and
the Mayor elected at-large. The
Stonewall Democrats of Austin will be holding two Candidate Forums and
Endorsement meetings to allow our members to hear from those candidates
who filled out our candidate questionnaire.August 27th (18 candidates) 6:00 pm - Meeting begins 6:10 - 6:15 pm - District 6 6:15 - 6:30 pm - District 8 6:35 - 6:50 pm - District 10 6:55 - 7:10 pm - District 5 7:15 - 7:35 pm - District 4 7:40 - 7:55 pm - District 1 8:00 - 8:30 pm - Discussion and voting September 4th (18 candidates) 6:00 pm - Meeting begins 6:00 - 6:30 pm - Mayor 6:30 - 6:35 pm - District 2 6:40 - 6:50 pm - District 9 6:55 - 7:25 pm - District 3 7:30 - 7:50 pm - District 7 7:55 - 8:30 pm - Discussion and voting Candidates will give 1-2 minute opening remarks, followed by 2-3 minutes Q&A with our members, then 1 minute for closing remarks for a total of 5 minutes per candidate. After we hear from all the candidates that evening the membership will discuss each race then cast ballots. In order to be able to vote in the endorsement meetings you must have been a member in good standing of the Stonewall Democrats of Austin for at least 30 days prior to the endorsement meeting. Those whose membership has lapsed will be able to vote provided they renew their membership, which can be done at the meeting or by clicking the "Join SDA" link on the left. The entire membership may participate in the candidate forum and the discussion of the candidate's positions but only those members eligible to vote as defined above may cast ballots. A 60% vote of eligible members present and voting shall be required for the endorsement of any candidate. Should no candidate receive 60% of the votes cast in a particular race, a motion may be made to approve a dual endorsement in that race. Such motion shall name the candidates proposed for multiple endorsement and such motion shall require a 60% vote of eligible to be successful. |
